Natural Or Barf Diets… Why Doesn’t Everyone Use One Of These?

How do people still buy their dog ol’ roy dog food? I have noticed so many people who are not looking into the nutrition for their dogs at all. I guess that is no surprise because the majority of people in America don’t research their own food either. But how do people not know the benefits of these natural diets. Even natural kibble like Chicken Soup or Wellness brand for those who are uncomfortable with feeding raw meaty bones? Yea, it costs more, but saves in vet bills and your dog leaves less stools! This is such a no brainer for me.

BARF diets scare a lot of people. Good sites are http://www.rawdogranch.com & greentripe.com
The diet is by far the best option for peoples dogs but does require a lot of research and know how by owners. Most people do not want to attain that knowledge. With that being said, a great alternative is serving natural kibble like you said and even mixing some ground turkey, eggs andcanned fish on occasion to get natural nurtrients not found in any kibble. The natural kibble is a little more $ but provides so many benefits. First off, ol roy is POISON for dogs and anyone who serves it, in my opinion, does not know enough even own a dog. Its just being lazy…
But using a high quality kibble with mixed in natural food here and there is easy enough for most owners and they don’t have to worry about a bone splintering as is the main reason for many not using the BARF diet. In over 40 years, as I have had dogs before it was common place to feed kibble, I have never lost a dog to the BARF diet. I started feeding it accidentily (just assuming this was what everyone else did). I feed chicken bones, turkey necks and whole eggs as the “scary” part of my BARF diet. I had to pull one chicken leg (I don’t feed legs anymore because of this) out of a dogs mouth because he tried to inhale it. I learned after that, probably 35 years ago, that the leg isn’t the best bones for a dog to eat because it is weight bearing and too hard on their teeth.

Actually I’ve tried Wellness for my dogs and none of them could tolerate it. Talked to a few other people who had trouble with it too and couldn’t feed it. So the best food might actually be one your dog does well on, not all dogs can tolerate the same foods.

When my older dogs pass, I will try it for the new dog. I tried it several times, but my older dogs seemed to not want it. At 9 years old, I guess they are set in their ways.
I never had dogs growing up, but marrying my husband brought dogs into my life. We foster for a rescue group as well. Over the last 6 years I have learned a ton, mostly from other long time dog owners. Most information you see on owning a dog comes from pet food companies, and they won’t tell you about B.A.R.F. diets.

    lol @ tom l
Anyone can finish a dog if they have the time and money and the dog has at least a little type. But even if you have a wonderful dog that is that perfect pup who conforms perfectly to the standard, why not feed her good food so she can stay in good health and live a long happy life? That’s the least you can do. Even a Ferrari won’t stand up to a low grade fuel. Anyone should be able to figure that out.
BTW I am a firm beliver in raw diets and good quality dog food. That is the only thing I will EVER feed my dogs.

I have used both and had luck with both. I haven’t owned a dog in awhile but am looking to get one, I know it is good for them and if you start them out slow just about any dog can adjust to that diet, but even if supplemented at times is better than nothing at all, that is why dogs were healthier back when because they ate that way..

Because good ole “brown guk” is a ballanced diet made for dogs
But it’s your dog, feed it whatever you like.
As long as mine keep winning both in the show ring and in the field, I thinkI will stick with what works for me, thanks just the same.

I don’t think that people need to be dictated to about what foods to feed their dog, ,just feed what works for your dog. There’s way to many dog food police out there dictating what to feed your dog.

I totally agree. I won’t use a raw diet, but I use a natural diet without preservatives, Natural Balance. Some of my friends have tried it with their dogs. It doesn’t agree with some of them, others found it works well. There are SO many good, wholesome, natural diets without all the garbage. If one doesn’t agree with a dog, owners should try another until they find one the dog likes that doesn’t cause a problem.
