Can I Take A Multivitamin Along With An Iron Supplement?

I’m a 15 year old girl and I run year round. The mother of a friend of mine said that I should take an iron supplement and that her daughter’s entire track/XC team (we go to different schools) take them. I also take a One a Day Teenage Girls’ Multivitamin, so would it be unhealthy to take both of these on a daily basis?
Also,if you have any links about this topic, that would be helpful. Thanks

I take certain supplements only around the time of my period (like iron)
Menstruating women may become deficiency, especially if they have heavy or prolonged periods and/or short cycles.
and sometimes Vitamin B6 or B12 deficiency and be the underlying cause of anemia.
Also strenuous exercise or heavy perspiration can deplete iron from your body (like your running).
Also if your a vegetarian you may be more likely to be deficient.
edit: there is no caution of amount in what I’ve read, but you shouldn’t take iron if you have an infection (because they feed on iron)

take a look at your multivitamin see if it contains iron, if it does i would ask your dr. before starting the iron because it is possible to get too much iron in your body.

Yes, your body tends to flush out the vitamins it doesn’t need.
Be sure to read the labels of both though so you know how much iron you’re actually consuming.
