How Did I Catch A Cold?

I wash my hands with soap religiously, take daily Vitamin C and multivitamin supplements, refrain from putting my hands to face, stay away from sick people, eat well, and am healthy overall. Is it the stress of upcoming examination period that actually caused cold?

Although not fully understood, stress has been shown to reduce immune response. Final exams are stressful. Interestingly, since the economic downturn, occurrences of cancer reoccurring in patients with remission has significantly increased. The immune system kills anything foreign looking, from the cold to cancer.
Now, the obsessive preventive behavior you described might not be healthy either. You need to get sick; practice on the weak ones like rhinovirus because there are some crazy ones out there (not swine flu). That’s generally the premise of vaccines.

Prolonged stress does weaken your immune system – it’s exam week for me and I caught a cold a few days ago. It wouldn’t actually cause the cold – stress couldn’t create the virus – but it would make you much more likely to catch something. Even healthy people get sick sometimes.

Viruses are in the air we breath, could have walked past someone who just coughed or sneezed etc.
